Behind the killings is fortune teller Sombra (Carol Forman), a spy from an Asian country intent on world domination, who is determined to pilfer the atomic rocket by luring workers from the project to her parlor and killing them with black widow spider venom when they refuse to cooperate.

Captain America

Superhero Captain America (Dick Purcell) battles the evil forces of the arch-villain called The Scarab (Lionel Atwill), who poisons his enemies and steals a secret device capable of destroying buildings by sound vibrations. Also stars Lorna Gray.

This was Dick Purcell's last screen appearance. On April 10th, 1944, after finishing a round of 18 on the golf course, Purcell went into a locker room to change his clothes but never came out. He was later found slumped over a couch, apparently from a massive heart attack. It has been said that the physically demanding role of Captain America (Purcell did his own stunts) contributed to his untimely death.

The Crimson Ghost

A criminal mastermind known as The Crimson Ghost is out to steal a device called the Cyclotrode, which can short-circuit all electrical current on the planet. Stars Charles Quigley, Linda Stirling, Clayton Moore and I. Stanford Jolley. Also with Kenne Duncan.

Bud Geary wore the robes of the Crimson Ghost, but the voice that came out of the stationary skeletal mouth was that of I. Stanford Jolley, who was billed fourth in the cast. Another actor dubbed Jolley's character's response on the radio. Finally, a fourth actor played the Crimson Ghost's alter ego.

Alcoholism and ill health (he was on prescribed medication for a stroke suffered the year before) led to the suicide of Kenne Duncan from an overdose of barbiturates on February 5th, 1972. He was 68.

Duncan had made his longtime friend and drinking buddy, Z-grade writer/director Edward D. Wood Jr., the executor of his estate. After his funeral, a wake was held at Wood's swimming pool, with each of the guests reminiscing about Duncan standing on the diving board.

Flash Gordon

The three of them soon find Mongo to be a planet of wonders, warring factions, deadly perils and strange creatures. Later they discover that its orbit is controlled by Emperor Ming (Charles Middleton), who has his own sinister plans for Earth. Also stars Priscilla Lawson.

A former Olympic swimmer, Buster Crabbe acted only occasionally after World War II, devoting much of his time to his swimming pool corporation and the operation of a boys' camp in New York. He died on April 23rd, 1983 from a heart attack. He was 75.
